Our love affair with air-hardened Reynolds 853 steel started early. From the first flirtation with the ROS 9, to the original SIR 9, and now the RLT 9 Steel, we've been enamoured with ferrous frames for over 15 years.

Why Does Niner Steel Still Feel So Real?

In practical terms, Reynolds 853 is nearly the perfect material for bike frame construction. Instead of being weakened by heat, the frame junctions actually strengthen after TIG welding. This enables the use of thinner, lighter tubes—without sacrificing durability or strength.

Steel Frame, RDO Carbon Fork

The RLT 9 Steel features our all-new RDO carbon fibre fork. The combination of a steel frame and carbon fork ensures a supple, smooth ride no matter how long the journey. This beautifully engineered fork is crafted from our Race Day Optimized carbon fibre, using a unique process that compacts carbon layers under heat and pressure. The result? A lightweight yet stiff fork with improved compliance over rough surfaces.

Designed with both aesthetics and utility in mind, the fork includes internal brake hose routing via a fully sleeved guide tube. It also features multiple mounts for racks, fenders, and cargo, making it easy to handle extra weight on longer adventures. A 12x100mm thru-axle and flat mount disc brake interface ensure compatibility with modern components.

For those pushing the limits on self-supported rides, the fork is dynamo-ready with internal wire routing and fitment for a hub-powered light. The only thing stopping you from riding into the night is your own bedtime.

Tire Size Compatibility for Any Adventure

Get ready to swoon. With more tire clearance than ever before, the RLT 9 Steel can accommodate tires up to 700x50c. Need even more traction or comfort? No problem — swap in 650b wheels and go as wide as 2.0". Feel free to mix and match wheel and tire setups to suit your next ride — just remember to keep it rubber side down.

We’ve even designed custom-fit frame bags for each size that mount directly to the frame — no more flapping straps or awkward buckles. The internal cable routing keeps the bike looking sleek and clean, while the PF30 bottom bracket shell allows you to run either a geared or single-speed drivetrain.

Prefer electronic shifting? No problem — the frame is compatible with both mechanical and electronic drivetrains. Planning to get rowdy on your ride? The frame supports a dropper post for added safety and control. However you ride, the RLT 9 Steel is ready.
