Technology
Direct Engagement
A direct engagement system was developed to increase drive rigidity. Compared to the conventional Pawl Ratchet structure, the contact area is increased, and ratchets are more firmly fitted to each other while being driven due to the spiral shape. These have led to a substantial improvement of drive rigidity.
Furthermore, Shimano have succeeded in reducing the weight of the entire hub by making the freehub body and main components of the ratchet from aluminium.
Shimano have succeeded in significantly improving drive rigidity by using a hub that incorporates a direct engagement system.
MicroSpline
MicroSpline delivers lightweight aluminium freehub body to reduce weight and 10 teeth top gear. Use combination with MicroSpline cassette and freehub.
Benefits & Features:
- Lightweight aluminium MicroSpline freehub seamlessly integrates with small 10-tooth top gears
- Smaller and more widely distributed splines limit cog damage on lightweight aluminium freehub
CentreLock
The CentreLock system makes an easy rotor installation possible with spline mount and a lock ring. The lock ring mounting system reduces the total working hours by shortening the amount of time of both installation and de-installation. In addition, the secure fixing by the spline mount enhances precision and rigidity while improving braking efficiency.
- Light weight
- CentreLock compatible hub has only spline mount and a lock ring. This means the lightweight of hub and rotor compared to 6-bolt mount system
- Lock ring rotor mounting system
- Allows easier and faster rotor installation. Easy maintenance
- Secure fixing by spline mount
- Improves braking efficiency
Quick Engagement
Shimano's rear road wheels and hubs are equipped with 18 / 16 notches for quick engagement. In contrast to road racing, MTB XC tracks have many sharp turns and steep hills, where quick engagement is essential.
Shimano has improved the rear hubs of its high end MTB group sets and wheels and equipped them with 18 / 16 notches and two sets of pawls to double the engagement and optimise traction.
